Our next face-to-face board meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 8, 2011 from 7-8 at the Centennial Elementary library. We also conduct monthly facebook meetings. We will post upcoming dates for this shortly.

We are always looking for ideas, and would love to see you become involved in whatever way you choose with whatever time commitment you can handle. For example, if you like to help create opportunities for kids in literature, you can help with the Gifted Writing Contest or create your own angle and do something else beneficial. If you are not sure how you would like to help, or even if you are not sure how much time you would have to help, contact us at higleygifted@yahoo.com to discuss.

Our next quarterly activity will be our annual game night on Monday, Nov. 14, 2011. The location will be at Centennial Elementary (Multipurpose Room, 3507 South Ranch House Parkway). Please come! This is always a great chance to get together and also to get ideas for fun and educational christmas presents! Hope to see you there! Feel free to bring a treat or snack to share, or just come! Some will be provided.

THANKS TO EVERYONE FOR HELPING AND FOR COMING!!! We had a great turnout and it is fun to see how we are all becoming more familiar with each other through these kinds of events.

1. CALL TO ORDER: 7:05 p.m.
2. OLD BUSINESS.
a. Treasure with fundraising results.
i. Results from last year’s fundraisers: Fitness works $510.00. Stratum laser tag -$93. Total profit $481.00. (Includes $64.00 of cash donations.)
3. NEW BUSINESS.
a. Opening Social: Michelle & Milton Bugg-Ice cream social w/activities
i. Calendar Date: HEMS on 9/12/11 from 7-8:30 p.m. Alternate date 9/19
1. Website to be updated with dates before Labor Day-Christian Petrie
b. Game Night: Mindi Petrie
i. Calendar Date: Centennial on 11/14/11 @ 7:00 p.m.
c. Mini Institute: Bethany Slade-Potentially there will be a speaker for the adults and classes for the kids to attend. Ideas included, Karate, some kind of art class. If anyone has ideas contact Bethany Slade or Debbie Niu.
i. Calendar Date: TBD in February at Centennial
d. Closing Social: Alison Jennings-Writing contest, potluck, HSG provide dessert, slide show with pictures from classroom teachers and or parents from the year.
i. Calendar Date: 4/30/11 at HEMS. Alternate date 5/7/11
4. DISTRICT ITEMS.
a. Brenda Hacker is the district person over the gifted program. She is in charge of curriculum and professional development.
5. FINANCIAL REPORT: We are starting the year off with $695.01 for funds. Possible fundraising ideas for the year. Asking for donations at the opening social. Everyone who donates gets a raffle ticket for prizes. We will be doing Fitness Works fundraiser again starting in Dec. or Jan.
6. QUESTIONS/CONCERNS/REPORTS. Some concerns were about getting flyers to the gifted specialists to get information out to parents about HSG and for collecting emails of parents who have gifted children in the district.

a. Calendar Date: Facebook Meetings: 9/7 from 7-9 & 10/5 from 7-9. Next Board Meeting at Centennial 11/3/11 from 7-8 p.m.
