About Us

Welcome everyone! Thank you for taking this opportunity to learn more about Higley Supporters of the Gifted! On July 9, 2009, HSG was organized in response to growing needs in our district. We strive to do 3 things in response to those needs: 1) Provide education. As parents and other supporters of gifted children, we often deal with many issues that can be eased through a better understanding of them. 2) Provide quarterly activities. Research shows that it is socially important for us, parents and children, to gather together regularly. 3) Work with the district to improve the educational experiences for our children to keep them challenged and “engaged” in their learning–which, as you may already know, challenging our children can be hard to do!

We currently have a full board and would love to see our group grow with you in it! Together, we can accomplish much more than we can apart–and our children depend on us to do that! We also need your help. In order to fund things, we are asking for annual family donations in any amount which will fund our quarterly activities, AAGT membership (Arizona’s parent gifted group), help train teachers, and provide our Gifted Specialists with things they are in need of. Contact Jay Twitchell, our Treasurer, at twitch1@cox.net with any questions or to make a payment.

Our 2nd annual Opening Social is scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 23 at 7 pm (at Centennial Elementary: 3507 S Ranch House Parkway) We will have ice cream, games, and an opportunity to ask questions about parenting gifted children. This is also our only fundraiser. A membership fee is not required, but it is the only way we ask for you to help us pay for all the great activities we do! We would love to see you there!

Also, if you are attending the self-contained program at Centennial and are in need of help to coordinate a ride, click on “Carpooling” under “Parents”. You will be given a form to fill out and will be contacted.

And finally, as our parent group continues to grow, please share this website with any you know that may benefit.

Thank you!

Debbie Niu
President of Higley Supporters of the Gifted (HSG)
